'Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version)' will stream exclusively on Disney+ in March
Taylor Swift is heading to Disney+ (DIS).
On Wednesday, the media conglomerate announced "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version)" will stream exclusively on its flagship streaming platform and feature five additional acoustic songs, including "Cardigan."
The acoustic songs were not featured in the theatrical or digital purchase release of the film. The concert movie will land on Disney+ March 15.
"Over the past year, we've all witnessed the creative genius and sheer power of a true cultural phenomenon, Taylor Swift," Disney CEO Bob Iger said on the company's earnings call. "We know audience are going to absolutely love the chance to relieve the electrifying 'Taylor Swift: Eras Tour (Taylor's Version)' whenever they want on Disney+."
"Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" was released in November by AMC (AMC), where it secured more than $92 million in domestic ticket sales during its opening weekend, the second-highest debut in October. It went on to secure more than $180 million at the domestic box office and more than $261.6 million worldwide.
The live concert experience arrived at a critical time for theater chains amid the Hollywood strikes — and was unlike anything exhibitors had seen before.
"We've seen demand like this, but we've seen it for big blockbuster movies," IMAX (IMAX) CEO Richard Gelfond told Yahoo Finance Live shortly after the film's release. "I don't think there's ever been a concert film like this ever before."
"The question is, 'Will we ever see it again?'" Gelfond questioned at the time. "I think Taylor is such a unicorn and a special talent. This concert had so much publicity behind it. So many people couldn't see it [so] there was pent-up demand. It's definitely a milestone in the history of cinema in terms of excitement around a concert movie."
Financial terms of the licensing deal were not disclosed.
Besides Disney, Swift has worked with other streaming and entertainment giants for projects in the past, including Netflix (NFLX) and Apple Music (AAPL).
